Seat mounted Top Box

Recently, there was a post in the "PCX Deal of the Day"
It showed a top box mounted on the back of the seat.
I was very interested in the mounting, and I contacted the seller of the scooter.
I will be buying the top box next month and have extra storage on my rides.
He was VERY helpful and provided the following information.


"I used a carpet floor mat and mounted it to the bottom of the trunk mount plate to protect the seat. Then I mounted two u-brackets under the seat to keep the strap from sliding back when accelerating or stopping. Then I used a duffle bag shoulder strap and cut the pad in the middle and mounted each end on each side of the mounting plate using six machine screws. This method works really well for I can just undo the strap and remove the trunk with no damage to the seat. Hope this helps."

The case with mounting plate is under $40US.
I have plenty of straps(a box of guitar straps).
the U-bolts shouldn't be more than a buck or two.
So, for under $50US, I think it is a good deal.

and you break the water seal to the luggage box if caught in the rain. Can't beat the price though

Dunno....I like the box , but think I’d spring for the 80 buck rear mount tray from Honda to mount....esp since Honda gave you the 4 mount points for it.

I just set mine up normally and then shaped some Styrofoam as a back rest and made a slot in it for a small gas contaner. Best of both worlds.
When not carrying gas cans the slot is great for packages.

Looking at the craigslist post, the box clears the handlebars when the seat is in the upright position.
I will give it a try next month (payday) and post photos then.
With regards to the Honda mount, I, personally, do not like the look of the box sitting out in mid air behind the scooter.
But, I understand why some people do.

On my bike, it takes me only a minute to access the underseat storage. Take the gas container off by undoing the bungee cord. Then I release the red connectors by way of releaseable tie wraps. Then the back rest slides forward one inch as you are lifting the seat. Simple. However, since groceries do fit in the bucket and if I don't have the gas container I can put a bag in that slot, I usually don't need to raise the seat...but I can if I need to.

As far as that bucket that is installed on the seat itself, to me it looks like it had better be empty or close to it before you try to lift the seat, or you could put too much pressure on the hinge.

I have a personal plan for storage on my scoot.
During normal/everyday local rides, I will use the underseat storage.
For longer rides(a few days), I plan to use the underseat storage for things I won't use daily, but want to have on the trips.
For example, Tools, tire pump, extra belt, rain suit, and other things of that type.
The top box, along with the saddle bags I will be getting will be for the quick access things.
Like, Helmet, snacks, drinks, clothes, and things of that nature.

Plus, I just don't like the look of the standard mount placement and I won't be having any passengers, so this fits my personal needs.

I haven't noticed any stress on the hinge, course I don't have twenty pounds of gear in it when I lift the seat.

There was a recall on a few base plates under the little cowling for a top box mount for 2015 PCX affecting mostly Japan sales. Yours is good to go if you ever wanted to use it.

Another thing I like is that it looks like you can just press the latch and remove the trunk quite easily.
So, even if there is a moderate amount in the trunk, it looks like it will be easy to remove.
So, if I go shopping I won't have to carry the bags to the house, I can easily just take the whole trunk, right?

I guess I was in error for liking this mounting idea.
While I understand many of the questions, and those questions were helpful in getting more information,
I thought my preference for this location would be okay and that I explained why I wanted it there.
I guess I was wrong there, too.
