Center stand FAIL

I parked on the center stand today, and it just popped right off. The mounts on the bottom of the engine block broke on the muffler side.

I'll see if I can get it replaced under warranty at the local Honda dealer... I'll need a new engine block though...

I will go take pictures in a bit and post them up. It's quite disappointing, I expected better quality from Honda.

holy shit, i should say thats covered under warranty, have the threads stripped out of the block? if not i would kick up a fuss with honda direct, get the number form your dealer, get onto customer relations and fight for it, they'll cover you and you might even get some freebies

oh wow.. I use my center stand every day... I agree with calling honda direct. Might not even want to start with a dealer. I have hit my center stand while coasting into my driveway (cars love to block it all the time) so I caught the centerstand on the curb. Has this ever happened with you? I'm going to inspect mine for cracks/abnormal wear from now on.

Thats not good. It's either a fault in the design or bad casting, neither is acceptable. I wonder if this is going to become a common failure.

Lucky you were there to catch it or you would have quite a bit of damage to the panels as well.

Stopped by the dealer, he took pictures and submitted a claim to Honda USA. They'll have to replace the engine block, which will take 10 shop hours and involve completely removing the engine...

Here's a view from below, you can CLEARLY see where the mount broke off.

I should add a note here, the scuffing you see on the black part of the centerstand is where the stand itself sits against the engine block, and is not from an impact.

I've bottomed out the plastic once, but never the centerstand. I'll keep you guys updated how Honda handles it... I'm hoping they just replace it no questions asked, even though it will potentially cost them quite a bit.

Meeting up with a guy this Sunday named john. He just joined here. Ill be sure to take a look at this area! Kinda freaks me out too seeing that I have snagged my centerstand on the curb twice. Once was a scrape, the second was a pretty good slam. Always checked for damage after the slightest impact but never found any sign of damage. Now I know exactly where to look.

Please keep us updated dave.. very interested to see how honda treats you with this one =)

Man nuts...!!! I thought my blinkers getting stuck was an annoying manufacturer's defect... Yours wins! (Btw, I am going to get my blinkers fixed under warranty eventually.......)

i warn you, Honda's uk warranty department is very good but slow. being a dealer for their power equipment i have to deal with them a lot, ppl don't know how to use lawnmowers even less than scooters

it could take a month for your dealer to get the warranty acceptance, they probably won;t carry out the work before then because of the cost of it, if it was a small job they'd do it and wait for the warranty to be accepted, but something like this is big and there is a small chance they won;t warranty it. i wish you luck

But yeah that sucks. Im gonna keep an eye on mine. I only ever use the centre stand, but I put the side stand down too just to be safe most of the time.

I ALWAYS use the center stand, but worse case, they'll deny me and I'll have to use the kickstand. I'll raise hell over it though, because I can't park my scooters closer together if one is on a kickstand, it'll end up taking up way more room since it's leaning on its side.

ask yourself, have i been sitting on the bike while it is on the center stand? have i rocked back and forth to roll forward off the stand while sitting on the seat?had a passenger on the back while doing these procedure's? i've been a owner rider for 50 years and the quoted procedure's are no-no's.

On my cbt we were told not to do this as the break off on most scooters.They just arent strong enough to take the strain the guy was saying and its common mistake beginners make too.

Rolling the scooter of the stand while sitting on it is something i do with the PCX. It is a habit i got into when i got my first scooter 9 years ago. I only did 1000 miles on that before getting a bike but now i am back on scooters i certainly wont be taking the risk anymore.

So long as you take your weight on both your feet on the ground while you rock it off the stand it should be fine.
It's sitting with both your feet on the running boards that causes problems.
