Ignition Barrell change

Hello,

Think i may of left my keys in the bike over the weekend and they have gone missing.

Cant be 100% but house key was on there too so i will be changing barrel for the front door too.

I have seen a new one for £50 but if i do change it hopefully ill get a cheaper one from a breaker on ebay.

Is it a pig of a job to change?

I haven't done the whole ignition swap, but i have taken the plastics down to somewhat close to that. It was a bear to get all that plastic off. Then you will have to deal with pulling the ignition and keeping the wires correct. It can be done though. Someone else did it a while back on this forum. Hopefully he is still an active member and can give you some pointers.

No just usually a few wood screws holding the latch to the door and then another other couple to the lock.

Front door lock change is simple. Changing out the PCX ignition is hard.

You didn't ask for general advice but i'll give some anyway. 1. While there is still a chance that you lost your keys (and they weren't stolen) wait a bit to do the ignition swap.
2. The odds are very high that a 12 year old grabbed your keys (if they were stolen and not lost). Very little danger of your house getting burglarized or your scooter stolen. You could even put up a sign near the theft offering a £5 reward for your keys. put on the sign that they were dropped on the ground so the thief does not have to explain how they fell into his hands. 3. if you don't change the ignition, you can get a replacement key for cheap if you have the key-serial-number on another key or the keychain they gave you when new..... Honda's corporate office was very nice in helping me when the local dealers had zero keys ( the blanks) in stock for scooters.

But you are reminding me of a problem. I keep walking away from my PCX without taking the key. I switch off the red cut-off button and swing out the kickstand.... then walk away. It must be because the key is slightly hidden when i stand up. In one of the tougher neighborhoods nearby, one of my friends could not believe that i had left the key in the scooter while visiting with him at his workshop.

I just have a suspicion that if they were taken someone is waiting to take the bike in a few days once I've become less paronoid. I'm going to change the ignition if I'm paronoid enough to change my front door barrel then it warrants doing the bike too.

Any tips or guides on where to start? Biggest job to date on the bike is changing the shockers but this is the complete different end.

It looks like one the plastics are off its a couple of screws and twist it off the front section of the keyhole. The pdf is in Vietnamese or something.

Managed to get the ignition barrell for £37 delivered bargain! If anyone has further guides or pics that would be great. Don't really know where to start removing the panels

< yep, a bit of a pain otherwise. You can program blanks yourself, but need a cheap bit of home made kit and watching the you tube video.
Hmm, so are the keys just 'keyed' to the barrel, or barrel and the ECU registering the key < I thought it needs programming and that means ECU not just barrel.

Has anyone got any guides or photos in this area for removing the panels? Doesn't have to be for ignition change just the General area. Thanks
