Newbie alert

Post by Smee »

Hi folks,

After riding various bikes for nearly 20 yrs I've recently come over to the dark side and seen the light . I only went and got a pcx! :o

Bought it new last week, a few miles locally to get the feel and then plunged into my daily commute 30m each way. Half of that on motorways. This was my only concern but now it's almost run in I'm confident it can cope. Great to flick thru traffic and the average mpg gauge makes me grin every time I look at it :D Good build quality so far and great little modern package.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the grunt of a bike cos I do.....but not that much. I love that smooth glide away from the lights grinning insanely at the driver next to me as they realise they've lost!........for the first few yards anyway

Will be doing all my own servicing starting with the first this weekend. Oil change and check the screen. I don't plan on checking valves just yet, maybe about 10k? Anything else I should look at?

Was thinking of a different screen but not so bothered now. Heated grips I think. Are the oxford ones ok? The stock tyres seem ok in the dry but the front did step out on a roundabout on the first morning to work. Nearly dropped it ....eek! My fault really. Will consider other tyres when these have worn out.

Thats it for now. Happy scooting :o

Hello and welcome to the forum. The first service is basically an oil change and check to see if nothing has come slack, gone out of adjustment etc.
Just go around the whole bike and spanner check everything. There should be what to check in the service book.

I got my first couple of services done by the dealer really to keep the service book stamped up because it was financed and to make sure there wasn't any warranty issues with me doing it myself. I'm a mechanic to trade so it wasn't a problem about doing it , I just didn't want any grief if something went wrong.

You'll enjoy the bike I hope, and the forum.

Welcome to the forum! Ride safe. I wear Hi-Viz where I'm at since there are less two wheeled vehicles. Cars are not as use to motor scooter and bikes.

Well well then Smee, Welcome to the Darkside! :P As the saying goes, we're never too old to learn heh? Glad to read that you're smiling. Must be the White color ;) Cheers to that!
Word up!! Be "careful" not to strip the oil screen bolt, it's a softy & a P.I.T.A.

Smee. With a 30 mile commute I would fit the heated grips and hand guards, also a taller screen.
