Honda PCX 150 Idle Ticking Sound
Hello,
Can you please help me by suggesting what this sound might be and what I should do?
My Honda PCX 150 suddenly started making a ticking noise on idle. I say suddenly because it did not make this noise at all the last time I drove it.
The sound appears to go away or quieten substantially when the engine speed increases.
Here is a link to a video of the sound:

Thanks.

I can't pick up the YouTube link so can't be specific but I'd be tempted to check the valve clearances

That sounds bad! Hopefully, as the video clip shows the issue very clearly, someone will advise you more. Could be the valves as stated, but why would it go from normal to as bad as that overnight!

The scooter was bought in 2014. It has 10,000 kms on it. The last service was 4,000 kms. Try the link again and let me know if it still doesn't work.

The original link worked fine for me (soon after you posted it) and still does, but another fuller version is:

Re: Honda PCX 150 Idle Ticking Sound
sounds like two things something knocking, or a really bad exhaust leak. anyhow take a screw driver and put the handle end to your ear. then touch the flat head or phillips end on the area where you think the noise is coming from. the knock should be super loud when you listed to the sound through the buttend of the screw driver. Then you'll be able to pin point the item in question. Also remove the cvt cover and look if the belt is slapping. because it goes away once you start giving it gas.

That sounds to me as though the valve cover gasket isn't sealed fully. Is there oil under the bike?
Regardless, it's REALLY hard to tell from a youtube video, between compression, your microphone, and my speakers, the audio gets fairly distorted. Clicking can be indicative of a severe problem, such as misadjusted valves. Since you don't know enough to troubleshoot it on your own, I wouldn't run it, and I'd take it to shop before riding at all. The PCX, as with most modern engines, is an interference engine. If valves are off enough or timing is off enough, valves can hit pistons, turning your entire engine into a hunk of scrap metal.

Hi. I don't know if you have traced your fault on your PCX but I have read somewhere that the front fairing ticks at tickover. I will have a look back to see where it is and update.

Re: Honda PCX 150 Idle Ticking Sound
im wondering if you guys are hearing the cam chain slapping??? failed tensioner...
Re: Honda PCX 150 Idle Ticking Sound
Hi,
I just got my PCX back from the Honda dealer. I was putting off bringing it in as I don't have the funds for it so I just used the car for awhile.
It turns out it was the cam chain tensioner. I had the initial 1000 km service done and then replaced the oil myself at 5000 km. The problem developed at 10,000 km and that's when I brought it in.
The oil I used had been sitting around for awhile so that may of contributed towards the problem as the guy at Honda said the cam chain tensioner is dependant on good oil viscosity.
They replaced the cam chain tensioner for $70 and didn't charge labour as I had it serviced and they said they were where they needed to be in the engine to fit this with the service.
I hope this helps.

Re: Honda PCX 150 Idle Ticking Sound
Hi iconsx.
I did not do the replacement. The Honda dealer said that part was $70 AUD for a cam chain tensioner.
Maybe it comes in a kit with multiple parts. Does anyone know more about this?

I changed the tensioner and checked the valves like 4 times. Still no luck, the ticking noise is still there. I think im just gonna ignore it and ride
